City Engineering Department receives state traffic award
The City of Valdosta Engineering Department is the state winner of the Georgia Section Agency Award for distinguished improvements in the field of transportation.
Each year the state chapter selects only one local government that has demonstrated excellence in the implementation, maintenance and operation of transportation systems. A committee comprised of federal, state and local government members, along with consultants, reviewed nominations from across the state.
Valdosta was unanimously selected for implementing new transportation technologies to respond and plan for continued growth in our area. Specific transportation improvements that were cited include the full implementation of the Valdosta Advance Traffic Management Center and new networking technologies being integrated into the the TMC.
Valdosta will be one of the first cities in the state to fully implement the new networking 2070 controllers at all traffic signals by the end of this year (2005). The 2070 controllers will improve city traffic by utilizing state-of-the-art communication and coordination software to control traffic through the TMC.
