Urban roadway design project with a focus on flood mitigation, utility improvements and corridor enhancement.
Improvements included the conversion of an open drainage conveyance system to continuous concrete box culvert, decreasing existing four (4) lanes to two (2), adding bike lanes, a multipurpose trail, and sidewalk.
To establish a sense of place for this corridor, pedestrian crossings with patterned crosswalks, decorative street lighting, hardscape amenities and landscaping plantings were provided. This unique assembly of design components has further transformed this roadway into a gateway for the soon to be completed Cascades Park, a 25- acre urban park with a variety of passive use recreational amenities.
This project won the FICE 2014 Engineering Excellence Award in the Stormwater Category.
